About the Course
In this eight-week course, Elizabeth will first meet with the parent group in a preliminary planning meeting that gives voice to any parent concerns or ideas in helping their teens acquire necessary skills for healthy social relationships, time management, and maintenance of physical/mental health while enrolled in college. Following six weeks of engaging prospective or current college students in the College Transition Group, Elizabeth will re-engage parents and students together to discuss trends from the class, highlight notable growth among student participants, and will also use this time to address challenges for parents at this phase of letting go. This portion will be aimed at helping parents identify strategies for supporting their maturing child's autonomy, maintaining their own support system of parents, and growing a healthy and evolved connection with their child.
Initial and closing parent participation is optional. Student participants will be given a baseline "college readiness assessment" and a follow-up "college readiness assessment" to evaluate growth accumulated from the group. Students may opt to share their results with parents or may elect to keep their self-evaluations confidential. Parents do not have access to any portion of student's treatment/participation for any child 18 years of age or older without written consent by the student.
